The beginning of summer is an exciting time. Children are out of school, and it is time to break out the swimwear. Vacations are on the books. Barbeques, picnics, and outside concerts and events keep our weekends busy.

It is the start of summer, which means school is out, barbeques are planned, vacations are booked, and campers are heading out on the road. This is always an exciting time of year for me. I have many fond memories of summer break and the fun I would have with friends and family. We would always have the slip ‘n slide out, sprinklers going, no bedtime, and no homework!

As a clinical nurse, May is one of my favorite times of the year, as we celebrate National Nurses Week! And National Nurses Week isn’t the only reason why May is a favorite time for me. The American Nurses Association has expanded National Nurses Week to National Nurses Month! Each May, the national and international communities take a moment to say “thank you” to nurses.

National Nurses Month is ideal for celebrating everything about nursing, promoting good practice, and reflecting on achievements. It’s also a time to appreciate our departments’ nursing families and clinical teams. If you are looking for ways to celebrate, check out these ideas for National Nurses Month and Week, May 6-12.

Hello everyone and happy Spring,

The feeling of Spring is in the air! Looking out the window, you start to see new life in the world all around us. For me, the trees and flowers are starting to bloom-which means warmer days are on the way. As the world is transitioning around me, I start to consider the impact of transitions we experience as nurses. 

As you might remember from previous communications, AMSN has been working on a comprehensive DEI program to help build competency related to DEI principles. The program consists of six modules, an introductory module that provides background, definitions and covers topics such as bias and microaggressions, and then five different modules focusing on five traditionally marginalized groups.

Happy New Year, Everyone! I don’t know about you, but I am looking forward to new opportunities and experiences that 2023 will have to offer us.

It is definitely winter in the Midwest, and we have gotten quite a bit of snow in January, and there’s no sign of it letting up. The nights are long, and the constant bundling up of my kids and myself has gotten old- fast.
