AMSN President’s July Message
Even though we are in the middle of summer, autumn will be here before we know it and it will be time for our annual convention. This year the convention will be held September 29-October 2 in San Antonio, Texas.
We are so excited to get together in person for the first time in three years since our last two conventions were held virtually. We have many entertaining things planned which include an evening award ceremony on Friday night followed by an invitation-only CMSRN celebration for new and recertifying CMSRNs, and a delayed 30th anniversary party on Saturday night.
If you are unable to attend in person, we will also have a virtual attendance option for the sessions. We want to give our medical-surgical nurses flexibility to attend in the manner that is best for them.
There are many great sessions planned to reinvigorate your mind and provide you with a wealth of continuing education. You will have the opportunity to earn up to 38 nursing continuing professional development (NCPD) hours. Since we know you cannot attend all the concurrent sessions, everyone who attends also gets free access to the AMSN Online Library.
This access will allow you to view the concurrent sessions you were unable to attend live and earn NCPDs. Those attending virtually will also have full access to all the convention sessions through the AMSN Online Library.
This year we also have several learning tracks for you to choose from as you identify the sessions you’d like to attend which include clinical, evidence-based practice/research, general, healthy practice environment, leadership, care coordination & transition management, and student.
The convention is always an event filled with connections new and old. We look forward to seeing old friends and colleagues and making new connections. There will be networking sessions planned, but some of the best networking can be done entering or leaving a session or connecting over a coffee break.
For those attending virtually, we will have the chat function up and running so all of you can also connect with in-person attendees as well as other virtual attendees as you participate in the sessions.
As always, we will have an exhibit hall full of vendors to provide you with information, pens, water bottles, bags, prizes, etc. We have even extended the exhibit hall hours to include Saturday rather than just Thursday evening and Friday. These exhibitors are always excited to have access to medical-surgical nurses to gain knowledge regarding how their products and services impact nursing practice and patient care.

Get a few of your friends together and take advantage of the group registration discount. This year all attendees have access to a FREE pre-convention workshop which explores how to leverage our nursing professional identity worth 4.0 NCPD hours.
Our hotels for the convention are conveniently located next to the San Antonio Convention Center. In addition to being close to all the convention action, the hotels have great access to the San Antonio River Walk, Market Square, the Alamo, and Tower of Americas.
The River Walk contains tons of enjoyable restaurants, bars, and shopping as well as river taxis and tours. In summary, the convention is going to be a great opportunity to reconnect with new and old friends, to learn from one another, and to have some fun! We look forward to seeing you there!
