Success with a Safety Net!
Are you a hospital administrator who wants to support your nurses in earning certification? Are your nurses nervous to take the certification exam? Would you like a simplified way to manage the certification process and your facility’s candidates?
We have a program to help both you and your nurses: The FailSafe Certification Program.
The FailSafe Certification Program allows CMSRN-eligible nurses at participating facilities to apply for the CMSRN exam twice within a 12-month period. There is no cost for an unsuccessful exam attempt if you have 10 or more nurses sign up each year.
Interested? For more information, see FailSafe Certification Program in the CMSRN Certification Handbook. Or, contact us directly at failsafe@amsn.org and request the FailSafe contract.
Independent groups of nurses are not eligible to apply through the FailSafe Certification Program.
Good for nurses, good for employers.
The FailSafe Certification Program is innovative and makes getting certified easier for everyone. When developing this program, we considered every aspect of the testing process, from test stress to financial concerns, and lifted the barriers. The result is everyone wins: nurses, nurse managers, healthcare facilities, and patients.
Manage your FailSafe account.
It's easy to manage your FailSafe account! You'll approve applicants to take the exam, they take the exam, and then you pay when they pass.
The FailSafe Portal is how you will approve or deny applicants for the exam and view monthly invoices. You can select who you want to have access to your FailSafe Portal after your facility signs the FailSafe agreement. Only employers may access the FailSafe Portal.
An invoice will automatically populate in your FailSafe Portal on the 18th of every month for the previous months' exam attempts. For example, an exam passed on September 9th will be billed to you on October 18th.
It's important to take the time to recognize your nurses for achieving certification. This will encourage other nurses to purse certification through the FailSafe Certification Program and help you reach the 10 minimum number of nurses required to enroll throughout the year.
Get certified through FailSafe.
Medical-surgical nurses who meet the CMSRN eligibility requirements and are employees of a facility with an active FailSafe Certification Program contract may participate in the program. Individuals or independent groups of nurses are not eligible to apply through the FailSafe Certification Program.
When you are approved for the exam through the FailSafe Certification Program, you may register twice for the CMSRN exam during your facility's contract year. Each exam registration has a 90-day test period. Your facility never pays for an unsuccessful exam attempt.
Your facility may be required to pay if you miss a scheduled exam or if you do not schedule an exam during your 90-day test period. You may request this payment be waived if you contact us within 10 days of a missed exam or expired test period with an explanation of the extenuating circumstances and supporting documentation.
As a test-taker, you will complete the same exam application as everyone else. You should select Continue with FailSafe during the exam application process on the Exam Registration page. Then, select your facility from a drop-down menu on the Shopping Cart page and select Apply.
Go to Certify by Exam or read the CMSRN Certification Handbook for further information about the application and scheduling process.
You may have used both of your exam attempts for your facility's current contract year if there is no Continue with FailSafe option on the Exam Registration page. You will need to either pay for the exam yourself or wait until your facility renews their contract for the following contract year.
Your facility may not currently be active in the FailSafe Certification Program if it does not appear in the drop-down menu on the Shopping Cart page. You will need to pay for the exam yourself or ask your facility to renew their contract.
If you miss a scheduled exam, then you forfeit one of your attempts to take the exam. Your facility will be billed for the cost of the exam fee.
If you had extenuating circumstances that caused you to miss your exam, please email failsafe@amsn.org within ten (10) days of missing your exam an explanation and supporting documentation and request that your facility not be billed. Failure to contact us within those ten (10) days will result in your facility being billed.
If you let your 90-day test period expire without taking the exam, then you forfeit one of your attempts to take the exam. Your facility will be billed the administrative processing fee.
If you had extenuating circumstances that caused you to not schedule your exam, please email failsafe@amsn.org within ten (10) days of your test period expiring with an explanation and supporting documentation and request that your facility not be billed. Failure to contact us within those ten (10) days will result in your facility being billed.
